The Open Road, Motor-touring in Haywood County

The open road. There’s nothing like it, especially on a motorcycle ride through the mountains of Western North Carolina. With roads as slick and curvy as a coiled snake, innumerable scenic and easily navigable routes crisscross the region.

Haywood County has the best riding in the country, with roads and climate perfect for a ride through the mountains. Signature routes include Highway 276 from Waynesville to Brevard, Highway 215 and the infamous Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap-an 11 mile road with an astounding 318 curves.

Home to the World’s premier collection of rare American vintage motorcycles, the Wheels Through Time museum in Maggie Valley has over 300 classic rides on display. Maggie Valley is also home to several prominent bike rallies that are held throughout the year.

Taking the High Road

The Blue Ridge Parkway winds for 469 miles from southern Virginia and ending at US 441 at the Oconaluftee Visitor Center in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park near Cherokee, riding the crest of the mountains that form the southeastern border or Haywood County. So jump in your car or hop on your bike and enjoy!
