Nationwide Search Yields Local Leader to Serve as Chamber of Commerce President

Haywood County, NC (April 17, 2024): The Haywood County Chamber of Commerce is pleased
to announce the appointment of David Francis as its new president.

“After a four-month-long nationwide search for the Chamber of Commerce’s new leader, the ideal candidate was found in Haywood County,” said Board Chair Laura Tragesser, Financial Sales Manager at First Citizens Bank. “We had applicants from all over the country. After interviewing several candidates, we knew that David’s years of experience within Haywood County government and his deep understanding of regional economic development would be keys to long-term success.”

Francis has an impressive background in both the private and public sectors and brings a wealth of knowledge in economic development and public policy. He has 35 years of experience in the business community and has served in several key leadership roles within Haywood County government. With his extensive experience in business development and a commitment to growth and prosperity in our region, Francis is the ideal candidate to lead the Chamber into the future.

Francis will officially assume his role as president and CEO in July.

In response to his appointment, Francis expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am truly honored to have been chosen to lead the Haywood County Chamber of Commerce. I love Haywood County and look forward to working together with other regional leaders to foster economic growth, create jobs, and enhance the quality of life for all residents.”

“I want to thank the citizens of Haywood County for giving me the privilege to work for them over the last 25+ years. It’s been an honor. A thank you to Haywood County Board of Commissioners past and present. An appreciation to the county managers I have worked with over the years and most recently Bryant Morehead for his support over the past six years. The work we started has laid a great foundation for the future of Haywood County.”

“On behalf of the Haywood County Chamber and the entire community, we extend our warmest welcome to our new president,” said Board Member Jake Robinson, CEO of Champion Credit Union. “Under David’s leadership, we look forward to a future of prosperity, collaboration, and growth that will impact our beloved county.”

On behalf of the Chamber Board, Tragesser also expressed her appreciation to past president CeCe Hipps. “We are grateful for CeCe’s leadership, which has kept the Chamber moving forward and laid the groundwork for David to be successful.”
